Network For Learning

My network of learning influences the way I learn because it is the sources that I use to connect new information to my current understanding of what I am learning. There has been more than one time that I have picked up something that I wrote and thought, wow, I could not write that today. At the time, what I wrote fit into where I was in my thinking, learning, and life experience. Journals are an awsome reminder of this fact. Journaling is not something that I use often enough, but if I did, I believe that it would be part of my network. It is a reminder of where our thoughts started and holds important aspects of how we interact with information.

I use digital tools to build on my learning. One of my most utilized tools are electronic journals available through professional organizations I belong to and the school library. I use the internet for list serves to get others opinions and ideas. This was especially helpful during my National Board work. I got lots of feedback and good advice as well as sharing what I knew also.

I always have questions :) I ask other experts, google, and read books and articles to learn the answers to my questions.

Shannon,

I really like how your chart demonstrates the multiple connection points of many nodes. In retrospect, I can see how I could add this to my own chart. Looking at which nodes do not have the dual connection makes me wonder how "traditional social networking" would fit into the current world.

For example, would Waledn Residencies fit this mold, and how do they fit into the connectivist paradigm since technology is not a huge factor once you are in the session.

Shannon,

Perhaps you could create a blog for your journal to watch how you've grown. I too look at the way my thinking has changed, but still at the heart of my beliefs is the fact we need to treat each child as an individual. I guess that's why I'm in special education!!! I love the little graphics you used as well. Great job!

Brad,

I have thought about the Walden Residency question; Would the fact that the information is shared using technology and modeling how to use it to support our writing would lead to a connectivist paradign. Also, during the residency we are collecting facebook names and e-mail addresses. The learning might not be completed using technology, but technology is woven into the process.

Jen,

The blog for journaling is a good idea, however, I don't think I am willing to expose myself that much in a public forum :) It is fun to watch thinking change... Thank-you for the kind words...

I love your sentence, not "willing to expose myself that much in a public forum." Are we teaching our kids in this connectivist, collaborative environment the difference between a healthy online discussion on perspectives on a topic versus 'exposing' oneself?

Just because "everyone does it" does not mean it is right or good.

P.S. Shannonn - at least on my computer, your blog is black ink on blue background and a little difficult to read? Is it just my computer? Do I need to tweak my browser. Can you modify that or is there a purpose for it and I'm just too naive and uninformed to see it?

Koh... That is the way that I set it up, I like it, but to be a team player, when I get a minute I will try to tweak it a little....
